Plans for Third and Brown

On sunshiny days, sometimes we just go, stand on the land at Third and Brown streets in Davenport, and think about the life that is to come in this corner of the world.

Over the past few months, a crew of people from all walks of life have been working with Backyard Abundance, an incredible nonprofit out of Iowa City, to dream and make plans for the land at Third and Brown. These photos give an idea of where we are, and what we hope will come to be.

On this land, we will grow an abundance of vegetables, herbs, and fruits as we honor the knowledge of and invest in refugees. The landscape will also include spaces for welcoming, sharing, and healing - nourishing under-utilized land so all in our community will have access to fresh food.

With all sorts of gifts and investments from people throughout our community, the work for this spring and summer is taking shape. Watch for upcoming volunteer days and opportunities in the weeks ahead.
