Decorating eggs for Tapestry Farms college fund
Ewelina Bergert came to the United States from Poland as a teenager to study. Now married with two children, serving as a co-department chair and associate professor at Black Hawk College, Ewelina had an idea of how to support Tapestry Farms students directly.
Two years ago, Ewelina, who also serves as a board member of Tapestry Farms, started raising money for a college scholarship for refugees and asylum-seekers headed to college.
On Saturday, March 14, Ewelina and friend Xenya Mucha will offer a two sessions of an egg decorating workshop to raise money for the scholarship fund. Participants can sign up for the morning (9a.m.-noon) or the afternoon (1 p.m.-4 p.m.) session. The workshops will be held at Tapestry Farms, 121 W. 12th Street, Davenport.
The traditional wax resist process involves several stages of tracing designs with wax and dipping the egg in different colored dyes. Each participant will leave with new knowledge and one finished egg. Class size is limited to 20 participants. Pre-registration is required. For ages 8 or older; ages 8-11 must be accompanied by an adult. The cost is $35, with proceeds going to the college scholarship fund.
Register for the morning session, from 9 a.m.-noon on Saturday, March 14.
Register for the afternoon session, from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, March 14.
